Since the dawn of civilization, and the creation of mankind, martial arts has been a foundational asset for survival & security.
Throughout the course of millennia, said civilizations would develop & pass down codified martial systems (fighting, combat, philosophy), as a means of sustaining their security, and supporting the development of future generations, into the leaders they ought to be. Empires world-over depended on these codified systems–and their evolution even–for their empire preservation & growth geographically. The Greeks. The Romans. The Chinese. The British. The Spanish. The French. The Americans. All of these powerful empires & militaries have codified systems in place that has been passed down, and guide the development of their military leaders, allies and personnel overall, to this day. Even as weaponry evolve over course of time (sticks & stones-melee-firearms-artillery) martial systems that guide areas such as strategy development & strategy execution, remain through text, practitioners, cultural groups and other means.
Since the dawn of civilization, and the creation of mankind, martial arts has been a foundational asset for survival & security.
But is this really all there is to the martial arts?
To have developed codified fighting/combat systems and leaders, to execute towards the preservation of security (personal & national), through military might and otherwise?
The answer is no.
Martial arts through its ‘soft side’ also has a strong role in the development of peaceful humans beings, and citizens as a whole.
To explain in a way you can relate: We all fight the personal war of ‘inner peace’. A war that begin for many, the moment we can comprehend our environment (toddler). This is a war with presentable dynamics that strongly dictate our decision-making & developmental process throughout multiple human developmental stages–toddler-child-adolescent-adult-senior. Successfully experiencing victory in this personal war, requires our application of martial arts elements (actively & passively), through means such as:
-Mindfulness/Meditation.
-Controlled Breathing.
-Pursuit of Continuous Learning of Self.
-Physical Exertion (Exercise).
-Spirituality.

It is through the implementation of these ‘soft martial arts elements’ over time (decades even), that we become more proficient in mastering our inner being, and thus experience wins in our personal war, of inner peace. Having said this however, it should not be misconstrued that victory in our war of inner peace, once realized, doesn’t present opportunity & reality for defeat to follow. This can be understood further as relapse. What you ought to comprehend, is that your war of inner peace, will be one that’ll remain, as long as you have breath in your physical body. This is why as human beings sensitive to our inner reality, we must continually (daily) adopt the soft elements of the martial arts towards our desire of living in the most peaceful & fulfilled way possible. Through the martial arts, this balancing act is expressed & can be understood, as Ying & Yang

How Martial Arts Adoption Can Help Address Societal Issues of Crime
Through both it’s ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ elements, the martial arts can greatly help address the societal issues of crime through:
The training & development of law enforcement, private security, and military personnel such as in: unarmed combat, close quarters combat with improvise weapons’, firearms (handgun & carbine); and discipline development.
The training & development of adult citizens applicable to their self-defense, through means such as: awareness, deterrence, and close quarters combat sensitivity enhancement.
The training and development of kids & teenagers in areas such as ‘channeling their anger’, pre-attack cues and better managing their emotions, at the cusp of interpersonal conflict.
The training and development of incarcerated youth & adults specifically geared towards their behavioral rehabilitation through means such as ‘Mindfulness Teaching’.
Awareness of surroundings is a critical component of self-defense as can be developed through martial arts training.Physical Conditioning Geared Towards Increasing Pain Tolerance Is A Feature Of Martial Arts Training

The martial arts has been an important element of creating and preserving the balance of peace within & between civilizations/societies, through both combat (war) & philosophical & communal development (peacetime activties), for millennia. In today’s digitized & globalized world, through the widespread cross-collaborative effort of martial arts teachers, law enforcement, correctional departments, militaries, schools (pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary, professional), political leaders, NGO’s and other stakeholders (locally, regionally & internationally within geographical contexts), over the course of years, a sustainable improvement in crime statistics (national level & regional level), interpersonal conflict resolution methods, and intrapersonal conflict resolution methods can be realized.
