Hurricane Melissa (Category 5), made landfall on Jamaica, October 28, 2025. The aftermath highlights destruction throughout the country; and landslides are one of its products. With Newcastle being a base for the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF), as well as a major thoroughfare for tourists to visit Hollywell Park, to name a few, if the road(s) are impassable (due to landslides), this can negatively impact Tourism Revenue and JDF movement of Human Resources, to name a few. This video was created with the intent of exposing you (layman) with Geology & Engineering elements that are critical towards: 1. Understanding Landslide Susceptibility. 2. Understanding The Critical Elements (Geo-Engineering) towards managing Landslide Hazards & Risks.
Geology Map: Papine-Newcastle, Jamaica. Blue Lines: Drainage. Dashed Lines: Inferred Faults (earthquakes of past).
Watch: Earthquakes Increase in Jamaica   3. Helping Jamaica & you (where applicable), sustainably recover from the costs and/or setbacks of the landslides in these and other similar areas, across the country.
